Malcolm Grissom
in
Can't Aint Nothing But A Four-Letter Word
Originally developed with and directed by Joya Cory, It's the story of my struggle with my disability, and the stigma that came with it. It's a funny, touching, and, hopefully, inspiring tale of perseverance and acceptance. "You got to accept who you are, if you want to chance how you do what you do."
Here's what people are saying about it:
"Inspiring"
"Malcolm Grissom’s a very charming & funny man who translates his hardships in a very honest, genuine & brave fashion. I enjoyed learning how his life unfolded & the obstacles he overcame to become the entertainer he is today. I’m looking at you Momma!"
"I really enjoyed this solo. I found Differently ABLED funny and moving. The performer is talented and appealing, great character bits, especially his mother.
It’s an active piece with movement and story combined.
I’m not so crazy about the title though. It doesn’t give you an idea about the journey of the play."
"I saw an excerpt from this piece not long ago at the Marsh Theater and can’t wait to see the full show. Malcolm is such a charming, funny, warm, engaging presence on stage–you won’t be able to help but fall in love with him. Malcolm is a skilled stand-up comedian, and that fills this solo performance and personal story with well-timed jokes. Despite it’s title, this is no After School special on disability, but a complex human tale about coping with true adversity as a child with good humor and laugh-out-loud humor. Not without dark humor either."
